I don't know about you, but I always feel a lot better when I eat and drink healthy foods rather than loading up my fragile mortal body with sugar booze junk food. But do you know the science behind the way your diet impacts your physical and mental health?
Part of the things I've learned about gut health and microbiomes is the way our body takes in new micro-organisms and how they can change our physical and mental health. It's fascinating how truly interconnected all parts of our bodies are. The way we fuel ourselves can have a massive impact on our moods. The vast majority of serotonin, the happiness chemical, is manufactured in the gut biomes, so eat healthy to be happy!
In the TED talk below, biologist Ruairi Robertson explains how the foods we consume affect our entire health. He comes from a family of psychologists and, in learning about food and biology, he discovered how we have essentially a "second brain" in our stomach that changes our health and moods based on the things we eat. It's a fascinating watch and worth thinking about.
