The thought of a mutated spider sends shivers down my spine, and I'm sure I am not alone!
Zoologist Mark Wong never expected to meet the venomous fangs of the red funnel web spider when he went on a hunt for spiders in the Tallaganda State Forest in New South Wales, Australia. But that's exactly what happened!
Wong decided to flip over a rock along his path when he discovered a spider-burrow. He started to poke around in search for the burrow's inhabitant, and encountered the mutated funnel web spider!
Watch below to see how this amazing interaction happened in real time:
Wong believes that this usually black spider had some genetic mutation that resulted in its red coloring. Regardless of the reason, reading about his discovery of this creepy crawler is intense; "Before I knew it, boom! She had rushed out of her silken lair with her legs raised and fangs greeting me with glistening venom."
What a relief there was no bite, or was there?
